SIC 15 Fines & Violations

BuildRI conducted an in-house study to compare the safety records of union versus non-union contractors. The parameters of the study are listed below, and comparison charts follow. If you have any questions, please contact info@ri21.com.

Standard Industrial Classification (SIC):

• SIC 15—the building construction general contractor category for “non-residential” construction.

The penalty types are defined as follows:

• Initial Penalty—original assessment by OSHA inspector.
• Current Penalty—fine actually paid by the company after settlement with OSHA. Current Penalty is often half of the Initial Penalty.

Reasons for inspection include accidents, referrals, complaints and planned or program-related inspections. A separate inspection report is filed for each contractor on a job site.
