The Masonic Temple RenovationOn October 4, 2004, the Rhode Island Building Trades entered into a project labor agreement with Phelps Program Management to achieve the largest restoration in Rhode Island history --the Masonic Temple in Providence. This majestic landmark building, whose construction was abandoned by the Scottish Rite Freemasons on the eve of the Depression in 1929, will be converted into a luxury four-star Renaissance hotel, featuring 274 guest rooms, 10,000 square feet of ballroom and meeting space, a restaurant and a lounge. Keeping the building’s original exterior design, it is to be known as the Renaissance Providence Hotel located on the Avenue of the arts near the acclaimed Providence Place mall, which is connected to the Rhode Island Convention Center.
