BuildRI has

“one of the most impressive” track records on PLAs

The track record of BuildRI (formerly RI 21st Century Labor Management Partnership) in securing project labor agreements (PLAs) since its inception five (5) years ago was recently recognized as “one of the most impressive” in the country in the latest issue of the prominent industry newsletter COCKSHAW’s Construction News + Opinion.

The focus on the article was whether there are economic benefits to PLAs or whether they are just a “political” tool?  The newsletter found that many private sector construction users, many of which are fortune 500 companies, have regularly implemented PLAs.  And since these entities are not subject to typical political pressures, the article concludes that the record “and other information in this article disprove an oft-repeated claim—the claim that PLAs are more a result of unions’ ‘political clout’ than any overriding economic benefit.”

The newsletter went on to highlight the accomplishments of BuildRI as an example of how to implement a successful campaign to promote PLAs and also to demonstrate that PLAs are more often than not entered into in the private sector as opposed to the public sector.
