Safety Record

According to the Occupational Safety & Health Administration, construction is statistically the most hazardous industry to work in. It accounts for approximately 6.5% of the workforce, yet it accounts for:

  • 9% of all workplace accidents
  • 12% of all "serious" accidents
  • 22% of all deaths in the workplace (From 1998-2004, it accounted for 34% of all workplace deaths in Rhode Island)

Our coalition members' concern for safety is unmatched, their committment to training is unmatched, and as the following information will demonstrate, their safety record is unmatched.

Our exemplary safety record could not be more clearly illustrated than through our fatality record in Rhode Island from 1998-2003 where there have been:

  • 8 fatalities in the nonunion sector, and
  • 0 fatalities in the union sector.

Additionally, the following comparison studies, which were conducted in-house based on data available from OSHA's inspection report database, demonstrate that our unmatched committment to safety has paid off. For more information on this study, please contact info@BuildRI.org.
